Recently, Edinboro University announced that Moe’s Southwest Grill, located at 2052 Edinboro Road, was the newest vendor to partake in the Boro Bucks program.

Before Moe’s, students, faculty and staff were able to use Boro Bucks at CVS Pharmacy, Giant Eagle, McDonald’s and Sheetz, in addition to on-campus vendors such as Chartwells, the university bookstore and the SGA C-Store.

According to Associate Vice President of Financial Operations, Eric Sheppard, the Boro Bucks program has been ultimately successful, even though it started off slowly.

In the 2016-17 school year alone, students used approximately $75,000 in Boro Bucks. The top three vendors were McDonald’s, earning 42 percent of the money; Sheetz, earning 19 percent of the money; and CVS Pharmacy, earning 17 percent of the money.

Sheppard said the next vendor to enlist in the program is Ocean Buffet. Additionally, Sheppard hopes to create a partnership with Uber by the fall so students will be able to pay for their Uber rides in the Erie and Edinboro area with Boro Bucks.

Sheppard also hopes to allow students to use Boro Bucks at vending machines around campus by the fall.

“It’s (Boro Bucks program) definitely a success now because it’s money spent on-campus and in the community,” Sheppard said. “Could it be better? Yes. But I think we’re gradually getting there.”
