“Last Comic Standing” winner Josh Blue will visit campus as part of the “Living Well with Disabilities” conference on Saturday, April 11 in the Frank G. Pogue Student Center.
Edinboro University and Erie Homes for Children & Adults Inc. (EHCA) have joined together for this conference, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Registration for the event is $35 and includes a continental breakfast and boxed lunch.
Blue has cerebral palsy and a large portion of his jokes relate to living with a disability. Blue stated that he went on to “Last Comic Standing” to “make people aware of the fact that people with disabilities can make an impact.” In addition to “Last Comic Standing,” Blue has made an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Comics Unleashed” and “Mind of Mencia.”
“Having a nationally known comedian participate in the ‘Living Well with Disabilities’ conference on April 11 is a wonderful opportunity for Edinboro students and the wider community to get a unique perspective that is sure to be engaging and insightful,” said Jeffrey Hileman, the director for university communications at Edinboro University. “The university and Erie Homes for Children & Adults, its partner in presenting the conference, are fortunate that Josh Blue is available to join other expert presenters for the event.”
“Living Well with Disabilities” aims to help attendees develop a greater understanding of the issues individuals with disabilities face daily. They also want to offer activities for caregivers to help them deal with the difficulties and stress of caring for individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, the conference hopes to “define the numerous resources that are available to assist individuals with disabilities in making their lives easier and develop an appreciation for what laughter can do to improve the lives of individuals who are dealing with a disability,” as stated in a press release.
