Edinboro’s running program lost another underclassman to transfer as freshman Brady Deaner will be moving on to the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina. He’ll be joining the ranks of a young program and head coach Matthew Van Lierop. Deaner will be competing in the Conference Carolinas, a conference Mount Olive won this past year.
“Coach Matt has been there for about eight years now and he’s created himself quite a program already. He’s got numerous conference championships in cross country and track and I’m really looking forward to being there,” said Deaner.
Deaner enjoyed his time at Edinboro, but in the end, had to consider financial factors and his improvement.
“It really bums me out because I do truly love it here at Edinboro, it just came down to financial reasons for me,” he said.
Deaner continued, “My next three years there will be cheaper [altogether] than my next one year here, so it's just too good an opportunity to pass up.”
Ready for the task ahead, Deaner hopes to cross paths with the Edinboro men next fall at the cross country national championships as both Mount Olive and Edinboro compete at the division II level.
“I exceeded my own expectations this year...I just hope I can carry that over at the University of Mount Olive.”
