Edinboro University has announced that the delayed spring 2020 commencement ceremony will be held virtually on Saturday, Oct. 24.

In an email sent to spring 2020 graduates, Edinboro University President Dr. Guiyou Huang attributed the decision to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. A time for the ceremony has not yet been announced.

“We realize that this news may be deeply disappointing for you and your loved ones,” stated Huang. “Please know that we share in your disappointment. Throughout my 30-year career in education, one of my greatest joys has been celebrating the remarkable achievements of students alongside their families and friends. Our greatest wish is to see you graduate and embark on the next journey of your life.”

The university’s Commencement Committee is working with virtual commencement company MarchingOrder to organize and host the event. Students will receive additional information from the company in the near future.

Students were already sent their diplomas in May 2020. Spring 2020 commencement was originally cancelled in late March.

According to the email, graduates are also “welcome to participate in a future in-person ceremony when conditions allow.”
