Edinboro University’s International Students Affiliation (ISA) hosted its annual International Night last Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. on campus in the north part of the Van Houten Dining Hall.

In years past, the International Night has been considerably formal, with formal attire required and a three course meal.

However, this year the ISA took a more casual approach to the event.

“This one is a bit different because it’s not as formal as it was the past few years; normally it would be a sit down dinner with a three course meal, but now we have snacks and everyone can dance, as opposed to before,” said ISA Secretary Marla Smith.

Smith explained that a budget constraint was the reason behind scaling down this year’s event.

ISA students and faculty members held cultural performances throughout the night and displayed the various dresses and customs of the country their ethnicity originates from. “It (International Night) bridges the gap between the international students and the Americans — not just the American students but the society in general,” said Smith.

She continued: “It helps debunk myths in some cases, because you can go and Google and find out anything about a country, but you can find out more if you actually talk to someone from that country, so that’s what the international night helps to do.”
