The Edinboro wrestling team used multiple bonus point victories to get back on track with a 28-18 win over fellow Mid-American Conference (MAC) member Davidson on Saturday at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots were victorious in seven out of the 10 weight classes.

They had dropped four straight dual matches prior to the victory.

Edinboro got off to a rough start as both Lucas Rodriguez and Richie Gomez surrendered falls to their Wildcat opponents at 125 and 141 pounds. At 157 pounds, redshirt sophomore Peter Pappas set the tone for the rest of the dual as he posted a dominant 21-6 technical fall over Hunter Costa.

Pappas was glad to put on a show in front of his home crowd and pick up bonus points for his team. “It’s awesome. Edinboro has such a great history in wrestling and the fans are great…I could hear them yelling the entire time I was wrestling and it’s a great tradition to be a part of,” he said.

Pappas improved to 15-12 on the season with the win, but he isn’t satisfied with his wrestling quite yet. “I have had some tough losses this season and things are finally starting to click. I’m excited to scrap this postseason and make it to nationals,” he said.

Redshirt sophomore Jacob Oliver made quick work of his opponent with a 17-1 technical fall in 3:59. He improved his overall record to 20-4.

Tye Varndell, Tyler Vath, Derek Ciavarro and Jon Spaulding all added wins by decision to help pace the Fighting Scots, while redshirt senior Dylan Reynolds received a forfeit at 197 pounds.

With two duals remaining on the schedule, Edinboro sits at 10-8.

The Fighting Scots return to action next when they face nationally ranked University of Michigan on Friday, Feb. 21 at McComb Fieldhouse. MAC Championships to determine NCAA Qualifiers will be held on Saturday, March 7 in DeKalb, Illinois at Northern Illinois University.
