EMTA present new myStop app by Karlee Dies

Tired of always missing the bus or tired of not knowing when the bus will get to your stop? What about waiting forever in the cold for the bus? Well, now there’s a new app available to Edinboro University students called myStop.

The new transit tracking application is a free resource available to students that was made in an effort to make the “Edinboro Express easier, more convenient and reliable for students.”

“With myStop, students now have realtime departures in the palm of their hands, making public transportation more reliable and convenient. We hope the app will improve the students’ experience and increase ridership not only on the Edinboro Express but all other EMTA routes,” said Meagan Cousins, the community relations and ridership development coordinator for the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority.

The app will pull up the closest stops to your exact location provided that you allow the app to use your location toggle. The current campus stops consists of College Park, Earp/Dearborn, Compton, Pogue Student Center and Reeder Hall. The off campus stops include Giant Eagle, Walmart Plaza, Millcreek Mall and Porreco Center. Once you have selected your stop, the myStop app will load the next 3 departure times. It will also show you a map of the campus with the exact location of the bus at that moment.

The app also has an “Alerts” feature which is said to benefit student in the harsh, Edinboro winters. With this feature, you simply choose your trip and myStop will send a notification to your phone whenever your bus is just minutes away.

In the spring of 2016, a “Trip Planner” feature will be offered that will allow anyone traveling off campus to choose their starting and end location and myStop will provide a step by step list of directions.

“In an age where students are very technologically connected, I am very happy with such a comprehensive app. From bus location service to trip planning features, the EMTA app allows students to coordinate their travel plans in the most efficient way,” said Dr. Kahan Sablo, vice president for student affairs.

The Edinboro Express run Monday through Saturday. The campus loop runs Monday through Friday from 7:40 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The off campus Edinboro loop runs Tuesdays and Thursdays. The app is available on Android and Apple devices.
