A group of officials from the Erie Police Department came to McKean Elementary on Feb. 7 to work on relationship building and to share information about what they do.

Lisa Roberts, McKean Elementary physical education teacher, arranged the visit and coordinated with the department.

“We look at this as improving physical education, mental education — it’s everything,” she said.

Police officers spoke to third and fourth graders about their equipment, what their role is in the community, and showed them their vehicles and equipment.

“When you guys see us out and about in the community, we want you to remember that we’re here to help you,” said Erie Police Lieutenant Jamie Russo. “We’re not just here to get you in trouble.”
