EU theater update: ‘Children’s Hour’ canceled, auditions for Spring 2019 coming soon by Livia Homerski

“Children’s Hour,” a play set to run from Nov. 29 to Dec. 9 was canceled because of a lack of auditions. This supports the message pushed by many members of the theater department that more communal support is needed. There was only a “skeleton crew” and more people with the appropriate experience for the titillating play were needed, according to Torie Witherow, an active member of University Players and EU’s theater community.

“We just didn’t get the word out enough,” said Witherow.

Despite the Fall season being cut short, auditions for the Spring 2019 season are just beginning.

Witherow is directing a show, “The Musical Comedy Murders of the 1940s,” that will run from Feb. 14 to Feb. 24. Auditions will be held on Nov. 26, 27, and 29 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the EUSGA office on the second floor of Pogue. For more information, Witherow can be contacted at toriewitherow@gmail.com.

Joey Asti, another member of University Players is directing a musical, “The Addams Family,” next spring from March 28 to April 7. Auditions will be held Jan. 22, 23 and 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. On Jan. 22, auditions will be in Diebold, and on Jan. 23 and 24, they will be in the theater in Pogue. A cold reading will be provided, and interested parties should come prepared to sing between 30-60 seconds of a song. If you have any questions, contact Joey Asti at aa150059@scots.edinboro.edu.
