In an email sent by the university this morning, Edinboro announced that Dr. William P. Alexander, former faculty member, had died on Wednesday.

Alexander was the former head of the music department and created the first university marching band in 1962. When the university televised lectures to students across campus, one of the first televised programs was Alexander’s Introduction to Music course. He also served as president of the faculty union.

In 2008, the university dedicated the music building to Alexander.

As of publication, funeral arrangements were not made available to the university, according to the email.
