Some changes are coming to Edinboro University housing, beginning in the fall.

According to Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Stacie Wolbert, Highlands 7 and 8 will be closed beginning Fall 2019, in order to undergo maintenance and upkeep. Highlands 1 and 2, meanwhile, will be reopened by Fall 2019.

Lawrence Tower A is also scheduled to re-open in the fall as a “traditional housing option,” which will include upgrades towards kitchens, bathrooms and mechanical systems, along with building aesthetics. Furniture will be upgraded and replaced with newer furniture from Rose and the Highlands.

Rose Hall and Earp Hall will be closed going forward, as well.

Tower A will also house new, pet-friendly rooms in the fall. Plans for a dog park are also in the making, according to Wolbert, with aims to open in the fall.

The living learning communities present in residence halls will be as follows. Honors in Highlands 1; first year experience (FYE) in Highlands 2; education in Highlands 3; pre-law and social science in Highlands 3; art in Highlands 4; pre-health sciences in Highlands 5; eSports in Highlands 6; and Healthy U in Highlands 6.

A floor for the Edinboro University Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and the Frederick Douglas Living and Learning Community will also be in Towers A.

In addition, rooms on the first floor of Towers A will be accessible for students with disabilities, as will spaces in Highlands buildings.

“The majority of our changes are aimed at meeting student needs or wants,” Wolbert said.

“An additional hope is that by moving all of the housing to the same side of campus, students will feel more included in the campus community,” said Wolbert.

One Office for Accessibility Services (OAS) student, Jadyn Hardy, looks forward to leaving Rose Hall, as she feels that their current location makes them “segregated” from other students.

Those who live in either Rose Hall or Earp Hall have priority scheduling for Tower A until Jan. 28. Any questions or concerns can be referenced to the Office of Residence Life by phone, at 814-732-2818, or housing at boroliving@edinboro.edu.
