A General McLane High School student was selected as first chair for the PMEA State Jazz Ensemble in April.

Joe Preston, a junior at the high school and a trombone player, was chosen from a pool of students that submitted audition recordings in January.

The audition included recordings of four Jazz etudes and improvisational recordings.

“He worked really hard for this,” said Jacob Malec, GMHS band teacher. “This is such a great thing for him.”

The PMEA State Conference is April 22-25 in the Poconos, Pennsylvania area. The only other student from northwestern Pennsylvania to earn a seat was from McDowell High School.
