Local middle school to host 6th annual Trail of Treats by General McLane School District

James W. Parker Middle School (JWPMS) students will once again provide Halloween festivities for children in the General McLane community.
Members of the 8th grade advisors are hosting the sixth annual Trail of Treats fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 26. Children are invited to gather candy and treats at various stations set up throughout the middle school between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

“This outreach provides our community with an opportunity for a warm and safe environment for children to trick or treat,” said Nicole Chabola, co-advisor to the student group and teacher at JWPMS.

“With the help of the staff, students, and 8th grade volunteers, this event also allows the school to support such a powerful program within our school.”

This event is for children 12 and under and the cost is $3 per child. An adult must accompany any child throughout this event. Costumes are encouraged, but not required.

All candy is donated from local businesses. Previous events, which have averaged 300 trick-or-treaters, raised money for the AH Club of Edinboro, Boro Women’s and Family Services, the Erie County Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ECCDHH), and for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwestern PA. Last year’s event raised nearly $1,100 for Because You Care.

This year, all proceeds will benefit James W. Parker Middle School’s PBIS program. This schoolwide initiative promotes positive behavior growth by shifting students’ mindsets with recognition, rewards and celebrations. Students receive awards based on modeling “Parker Pride” behavior expectations, a chart of uniform expectations for five different areas.

General McLane School District serves students in kindergarten through 12th grade in Franklin, McKean and Washington townships, as well as the boroughs of McKean and Edinboro. The district also serves tuition students throughout Erie County.
