According to the president of Lock Haven University, Dr. Michael Fiorentino, Jr., after careful consideration of the financial standings and Title IX requirements within the program, the University has decided to terminate the men’s indoor track and field program.

Amidst the SaveHaven movement, proposals were presented from coaches, students, faculty and administrators in regards to what they felt would be the best possible decision in terms of financial longevity in time of low enrollment.

Groups like Save LHU Track & Field and Save Lock Haven Swimming put the university on notice by utilizing social media to voice their concerns; forcing considerations to be made by the university administration.

Change.org’s Save LHU Track & Field page reached 2,142 petition signatures, while a video at the PSAC Indoor Championships showcased a rally at the of the meet, tallying a total of 70,416 views.

Meetings with student representatives were also held.

All other programs including men’s outdoor track and field, women’s swimming, and women’s division I field hockey will be safe for the time being; although Title IX and budgetary considerations are to be discussed within the coming year.
