On Wednesday, current Edinboro University Interim President Dr. Michael J. Hannan sent an email to all enrolled students, faculty and staff at Edinboro regarding the search for a new university president.
Hannan, who has been serving as interim since last spring, following the resignation of Dr. H. Fred Walker, opened the message by making it clear that the “interim appointment was defined through June 2019.” This is in addition to Hannan stating that he had been encouraged to "consider an additional year in the interim role." He chose not to pursue a longer term.
With that said, and the date rapidly approaching, “A search will be launched very soon for a permanent president for Edinboro University,” Hannan said in the email, sent just before 2 p.m.
“I believe the University is in a good position to find and attract its next president, and having a new leader in place to begin the next academic year will allow us sufficient time to make continued progress on a number of initiatives,” he continued.
When a new president takes his/her position, Hannan will step down and return to his prior position. In the email he elaborated: “While it has been a real privilege to serve as interim president, I have chosen to return to my role as provost, where I will continue to provide leadership over the academic and student affairs areas.”
Concluding the mid-week message, Hannan expressed his gratitude to those who provide continued support and a commitment to Edinboro. He said, “I look forward to working with students, faculty and staff in the months ahead as we continue to move the University forward.”
