At Edinboro University’s Presidential Search Committee’s March 22 meeting, the committee selected several presidential candidates to continue in the selection process, and established a plan to host candidates at the university for on-campus interviews and meetings.

In a recent article released by the university, Chairperson of the Presidential Search Committee Harold Shields stated that there was “great participation by all the committee members” during the committee’s recent meeting.

After further consideration, a select few candidates will visit the university to partake in forums, which will allow for university faculty members, students, and community members to interact with the potential presidential candidates.

Shields shared that the forums start in the morning and are held until the evening, when a special forum will be held specifically for community members.

“We’re [committee members] very serious about having participation from the faculty, administration, students [and] community when the candidates come on campus. It’s a very important part of the process for us. It really helps us determine who will be the best fit for the presidency of Edinboro.”

Shields also imparted that student participation is important in the selection process, and he expects more students to partake in the upcoming forums.

“I’ve been involved with the last few searches, and I’ve been very disappointed with the student participants. Students have just not been interested.”

As of now, the committee is right on track in the selection process, with its goal being to place a president by the next academic year.

“We’ve [committee members] all said that we want to have a president in place for the fall semester,” Shields said.

At this time, the names and other details about the presidential candidates remain confidential.

However, at the conclusion of the on-campus forums the Presidential Search Committee will present the names of promising candidates, based off of administrative, student, and community feedback, to the Edinboro University Council of Trustees.

The trustees will approve an agenda of candidate names and send it through the State System chancellor to the Board of Governors, which will make the final decision in the selection process and appoint the next president of Edinboro University.

According to a news release sent out by the university, Edinboro’s Presidential Search Committee and the Office of the Chancellor are aided in the selection process by executive search consulting firm Greenwood/Asher & Associates, Inc.

“Thanks to the diligence of the committee members and the expert assistance of the Chancellor’s Office; our presidential liaison, Dr. Karen Whitney of Clarion University; and Greenwood/ Asher & Associates, we are on track and meeting our schedule,” Shields said in the recent news release.
