On Monday night, it was announced by Edinboro University Student Government Association (EUSGA) that the position of Vice President of Student Interest had been filled by Olivia Franchock. Appointed by new president Craig Rodgers III, Franchock was chosen because of her background with SGA, and what SGA referred to as great organizational skills and her dedication to listening to and addressing student concerns. A unanimous vote and sworn oath solidified Franchock as vice president.

To accommodate student complaints, EUSGA has undergone structural changes this semester and the transition hasn’t been easy; the organization is spread thin and “in need of some support,” according to Rodgers, who urged the student body to get more involved. Perks of joining SGA as a congress member, according to the organization, include priority scheduling, the ability to represent groups and clubs on campus that are important to you and influencing campus-wide decisions, like the hiring or firing of paid staff members.

Though EUSGA supervisor, Eric Sheppard, gets the final say in decisions of that magnitude, most choices are entirely up to the students.

Director of Finance Matt Russell confirmed that past SGA members have been offered internships and even jobs based on their involvement.

Despite lack of participation in the organization, Rodgers is confident in EUSGA’s ability to “build a name” for itself and is looking forward to forming a stronger relationship with the student body.

To join EUSGA, email Rodgers at president@edinboro.sga.com, or attend a meeting any Monday at 6 p.m. in Pogue 143.
