Edinboro University Student Government Association (SGA) president Nicholas Helfer addressed the EU student body in an e-mail. He said, "In response to university statements and student concerns regarding COVID-19, I wanted to take a moment to share with you and elaborate on how Edinboro University’s Student Government Association (SGA) is responding."
The first point mentioned was related to club-related student travel. Helfer said, "SGA is working with the university and is committed to following its lead on travel restrictions. You are not permitted to use funds for anything the university prohibits. All budgets used for travel-related expenses such as, but not limited to, fuel, vehicle rentals, and travel reimbursements will be frozen until further notice, and there will be no use of SGA vehicles."
He noted that organizations are encouraged to cancel all planned trips, hotel reservations, meetings, etc.
The second topic of discussion was related to SGA meeting dates. Helfer announced that the March 28th SGA meeting was canclled, however, as of now the April 8th meeting still stands. All club and organization representatives are still expected to be in attendance.
Helfer said, "Congress members, please note Edinboro University Student Government Association, Inc. (EUSGA, Inc.) is an operating business and must continue to make decisions even though Congress will not be meeting. All decisions made will be reviewed at the next Congress meeting."
A major point raised in this e-mail was that clubs and organizations are still expected to have their Spring budget information by March 20.
"We apologize for any inconveniences, but SGA needs time to review budgets and adjust percentages of the Student Activity Fee," Helfer said.
The budget office, run by newly appointed Director of Operations April Brown, will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. should any organizations have questions regarding the budget according to the e-mail.
Helfer also gave additonal information related to the spring concert, which the university confirmed was canceled yesterday, he said that ticket sales have been suspended, and that information on refunds will be released in the coming days.
