When the Fighting Scots men’s basketball team traveled to Pitt-Johnstown on Jan. 12, they suffered a 100-88 loss. When the Mountain Cats journeyed to Edinboro on Feb. 6, though, it would be a different story. The Fighting Scots would come out on top, 96-88, recording their third conference win of the season.

In the win, five Fighting Scots would record double digit points: Jaryn Simpson (25), Turner Kurt (14), DeAnthony Owens (14), Daylon Harris (14) and Alex Jay (10), as they accounted for 77 of Edinboro’s 96.

Simpson had a big night overall, as he also recorded 11 assists and a career-high 14 rebounds, becoming the first Fighting Scot since the 2007-2008 season to record a triple-double.

The game began with both teams meeting at center court for pre-game handshakes as part of PSAC Sportsmanship Week.

‘Boro would start the game on a 7-0 run. Pitt-Johnstown would quickly catch up, though, after consecutive made 3-point shots by Romano Sebastiani. Edinboro would lead by as many as eight points in the first half and would start the second half leading 46-38.

Edinboro started the second half on another scoring streak, pushing the gap further and leading 54-38 with 19 minutes left on the clock.

The Fighting Scots would keep this lead for the remainder of the game, at one point leading by 20. Four fouls on the Mountain Cats in the last minute put Owens and Simpson at the line two times each.

The 6-13 (3-11 PSAC) Fighting Scots would then travel to California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday (story on B1).
