McKean Elementary School celebrated its summer reading last week.

Sponsored by McKean Elementary PTA, students who read 10 or more books over the summer received a free book and the opportunity to participate in a pizza party.

There were 113 students honored.

According to Scholastic, 47% of parents with school-age children are unaware of the “summer slide,” or the loss of academic skills that occurs when school is not in session. Summer reading programs can help to fight this decline in reading ability and other academic skills.

McKean PTA is a non-profit organization comprised of parents and guardians of current students, current administrators and teachers, and patrons who wish to support McKean Elementary School.
