The Friday night swim meet against Gannon also served as senior night for the Fighting Scots. The evening, and last home meet of the season, began with the recognition of seven different seniors. Katelyn Kopacko, Kaitlyn Daiger, Yana Miletska and Melia Andrulonis were honored on the women’s side, while Nick Bradford, Jackson Bangert and Noah Frederick were highlighted for the men.
The Fighting Scots men would lose on the celebratory night, 126.5-87.5. The women would defeat the Golden Knights, 130-82. The latter would move to 4-1 on the season (and 3-0 at home), with a date at Clarion (3-2) on Jan. 24.
Of the seniors recognized, four posted PSAC qualifying times, with Miletska actually posting qualifying times in three separate events: the 400-yard IM, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Kopacko, meanwhile, was a major force in the victory, placing first in three different events: the 50 freestyle and two relay races.
Bradford, on the men’s side, won both events he entered, the 400 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Bangert, meanwhile, met the qualifying time in the 100 butterfly.
Many other swimmers posted PSAC qualifying times, with 13 athletes qualifying in a total of 19 events. Freshmen swimmer Gerardo Ruiz qualified in the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. Several other freshmen qualified, with Cole Dorobish in the 100 backstroke, Luke Edmonds in the 50 freestyle, and Ted Kinney in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races for the men’s team. Junior Michael Kocher also qualified in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
Qualifying freshmen on the women’s side included Sydney Cade for the 400 IM, Lena Mitcho for the 50 freestyle and Makayla Scheu in the 100 freestyle. Also qualifying was junior Kendall Peregrini in the 400 IM.
