With the COVID-19 pandemic possibly taking a turn for the worst, Edinboro University is pushing students and employees to get their free flu shot.

According to a recent university email, getting the flu shot is “more convenient than ever.” Student Health Services will be giving the shots at Ghering Health and Wellness Center during normal business hours, but they require an appointment. If you're interested in the vaccination, call (814) 732-2743.

According to the CDC, it’s “likely” the flu virus, along with COVID-19, will spread this fall and winter. The government agency states: “Healthcare systems could be overwhelmed treating both patients with flu and patients with COVID-19. This means getting a flu vaccine during 2020-2021 is more important than ever.” It’s been found that the flu vaccine prevents “tens of thousands of hospitalizations each year.” Specifically, in 2018-19, this meant the prevention of approximately 58,000 “flu-related hospitalizations.” This could save crucial hospital space in the case of another COVID-19 wave.

It’s important to add that the flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19.
