The Edinboro women’s basketball team scored another dominant win on Saturday, this time over Clarion University, 79-45.

As usual, the Fighting Scots came out strong to start the game, recording their first points after a foul by Yasmin Lewis put Edinboro’s Ciara Rosten at the line for two.

Less than a minute later, Jontay Walton would convert a fast break, but Clarion’s Lewis and Amesha Harden-Pullium put up 4 points in the next minute.

With a little over seven minutes left in the first quarter, Rosten put up another two points, assisted that time by Walton. At the 6:10 mark, Lewis added another 2 points to Clarion’s total, but that would be the last they would score in the first quarter. Edinboro’s Whitney Allen, Michelle Jahn, Rosten and Walton would put up another 12 points before the end of the quarter, bringing the early score to 18-6.

In the second, Michaela Barnes benefited from an assist from Allen to open the scoring with a jumper 20 seconds in. Two minutes later, Clarion’s Tracy Wiehe put points on the board for the Golden Eagles, which was the start to a quick minute of back-and-forth points from both sides.

With less than 4 minutes left in the half, Rosten made a layup, which was answered with a layup from Clarion. In the rest of the half, Rosten would put 4 more points on the board for Edinboro. At halftime, the score would be 34-12 with Edinboro in the lead.

Clarion would open scoring in the second half with a 3-point shot from Taylor Moltz. It would not be until Rosten and Walton each put 2 on the board before Clarion scored again, though, halting any momentum. Walton answered with a layup of her own, and Barnes converted on a fast break to put up another two points roughly 20 seconds later.

Within the next minute, Clarion put another 4 points on the board and Edinboro’s Rosten made another layup. Again, Walton and Rosten put points on the board before Clarion’s Marina Kelly would make a 3-pointer, bringing the score to 47-25 with 5:12 left on the clock in the third quarter.

Edinboro’s Ayana Vaughn, Walton and Rosten would score a combined 9 points before Clarion would score again. And with a little over 2 minutes left on the clock, Edinboro’s Bridgette Shaffer would make her first points of the game.

A foul on White put Edinboro’s Allison Thompson at the line for two with a little over 8 minutes remaining on the clock. White would redeem her foul with a jumper (assisted by Harden-Pullium) shortly after. A foul immediately after that called on Clarion would put Thompson back at the line for another two.

After a layup from Rosten, a foul would be called on Allen, putting Clarion’s White at the line for two. Lewis put up another 2 for Clarion at the 6:47 mark, which was almost immediately answered with a layup from Edinboro’s Sarah Fisher.

It would be over another minute before anyone would score, and another minute after that before Kelly would make a 3-point shot to bring the score to 69-42 with 4 minutes left. After 2 more minutes, Shaffer and Fisher had put up a combined 5 points before Clarion’s Bekelja would make a 3-pointer.

With 1:30 left, Vaughn would put another 3 on the board, and with 46 seconds left on the clock, Vaughn would be at the line for a foul called on Harden-Pullium. After Vaughn made the two at the line, it brought the final score to 79-45.

Rosten put up a total of 27 points and Walton added 20 points in the game. The team extended their winning streak to eight, and they currently sit at 22-2 overall and 18-2 in the conference.

On Wednesday, the team will travel to Indiana University of Pennsylvania to face off against the ninth ranked Crimson Hawks. They fell to them earlier in the season, 74-68. On Saturday afternoon, the team will return home to McComb Fieldhouse to face Mercyhurst University at 1 p.m., where the seniors will be honored.
