The esports program has been in talks since 2018. On Sept. 16, nearly a year's worth of work culminated in a "virtual ribbon cutting."
The new Esports team on campus recently hosted a meeting to discuss details on the program moving forward.
Because esports will be treated the same as other sports such as swimming or football, participants will be held to the same standards as their other student-athlete peers. This means they will have to remain on track for graduation, maintain a certain minimum GPA and remain a full-time student while competing.
