It snows here in the rust belt. However, there’s still time to get out and enjoy the sunshine and warmth while it’s around. Here are the top 10 places to visit before fall ends that are a manageable drive from Edinboro and campus.

Goodell Gardens and Homestead

Located less than a mile away from campus, the facility is an educational garden and arboretum. Unfortunately, it is too late to check out their annual harvest festival, but at the very least a fall photo shoot is calling your name.

Lake Edinboro

This one may sound too obvious, but Lake Edinboro is a great place to soak up the last bits of sunshine. Pack a picnic and enjoy the view, or do something more elaborate like rent kayaks from the Edinboro Lake Resort.

The Wooden Nickel Buffalo Farm

Located off I-79, this farm has various activities to partake in, including a petting zoo, pumpkin patch and a corn maze.

Asbury Woods

Located in Erie, Asbury Woods has multiple, fairly easy-to-navigate paths and scenic forest views for anyone that loves the outdoors.

Frontier Park

Located roughly 25 miles from campus, Frontier Park is also a good spot for a picnic or scenic walk. They have an arboretum where community members hold events like yoga classes and art classes.

Presque Isle

Only 27 minutes away, Presque Isle is open to the public for swimming and provides an opportunity for those to take advantage of the last of the good tanning days. Vendors on Presque Isle rent out both kayaks and jet skis.

The Erie City Zoo

Take a drive or bus ride up to Erie to see what the local zoo has to offer. Grab snacks, a camera and visit the penguins, lions, giraffes, rhinos and monkeys. It is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Panama Rocks

Only an hour from campus, Panama Rocks Scenic Park offers a mile-long trail looping around the ridge. Located in Panama, NY, this is for the more experienced hiker, or just someone with good coordination and an ability to climb.

SurfsUp Adventure

This attraction is located in Pittsburgh, offering eco-tours that you do on paddle boards, along with paddle board yoga. Reservations are required ahead of time.

The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon

Yes, it really exists, and is roughly four hours from campus. The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, located in Wellsboro, PA, offers hiking for all experience levels, fishing, train rides, wagon rides, and even movie showings at the Arcadia Theater.

Get outside and enjoy the sunshine and fall foliage before you have to trudge through snow.
