Climate change has been a pressing issue plaguing the minds of millions around the world. Questions continue to arise of what can we do to ensure our planet will remain sustainable. Are we able to reverse collateral damage that’s already in place? How soon can we make a change or is it too late for us to save ourselves?

World leaders recently gathered at the annual U.N. Climate Summit held in the New York City headquarters.

At the forefront was Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg, who showcased her displeasures against world leaders and their lack of ambition in the wake of climate concerns.

“How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you’re doing enough when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight,” Thunberg said. “You say you hear us and that you understand the urgency, but no matter how sad and angry I am, I do not want to believe that. Because if you really understood the situation and still kept on failing to act, then you would be evil and that I refuse to believe.”

Thunberg caught the world’s attention and was showered with applause from attendees who believe her message. Sadly, not all people were on board with her statements. One in particular was the U.S. president.

Trump responded to Thunberg by doing what Trump does best: tweeting. Trump posted a tweet that reads: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”

This isn’t the first time, and very likely won’t be the last, that our president has hid behind his phone to berate adversaries who oppose his ideologies. The U.S. is run by an incompetent leader who, instead of acknowledging the strong and valid accounts from a brave 16-year-old girl, takes a serious situation as a complete joke. Trump attacking a child drops whatever credit he had left (if any) down the toilet, and he’s taking the U.S. with him.

The real kicker is that he was actually in attendance for the event but decided that it wasn’t in his best interest to stick around; he left after 15 minutes. There was no participation and silence was the only solution offered by the U.S.

If we want to have any hope for saving our planet, world leaders must not take Thunberg’s comments lightly. World superpowers like the U.S. must be involved further in this world crisis, and they must stand up and enforce stricter regulations in order to halt disaster.

Trump must look himself in the mirror and understand that he is the leader of this country. Everything he says or does affects the status of our country as a whole.

The people will realize that the recent activity by Trump and other world leaders has been wrong before, and they’re wrong to disagree with Thunberg.

The world needs more Greta Thunbergs. We cannot and will not survive much longer if we don’t stand by her.
