Album Review: Summer Walker – Still Over It by Azzer Carpenter
LVRN and Interscope Records

Summer Walker’s “Still Over It” album was released on Nov. 5 by LVRN and Interscope Records. The highly anticipated album turned out to be everything fans were hoping for.

Walker has released two extended-playing records and three studio albums since her first release back in 2017. Succeeded by her 2019 album “Over It,” her latest EP addresses the rumors that have been impacting the life of the female R&B artist over the past two years.

The sound of “Still Over It” is similar to other pieces of work Walker has released where a story is being told. One controversy surrounding the album was the idea of Walker being pregnant. She confirms the pregnancy rumors in the prelude titled “4th Baby Mama.”

There are many popular featured artists throughout the album. Some of the more popular artists to name include City Girls, SZA, Lil Durk and Cardi B. All of the artists featured prove to contribute to the aesthetic of the album by bringing the tone of music they typically generate in their own music. For example, the artist SZA typically creates music with either a chill-relaxed vibe or to display no affection to a guy who does not deserve it. In the song “No Love,” you gain the perfect understanding of that emotion.

“Still Over It” contains 20 songs, which falls above the average for a typical Walker album, which usually lands between 12 to 16 songs. However, the length of the album is not too noticeable due to the story being portrayed throughout the well-thought-out tracklist and soothing vocals. Eighteen of Walker's songs landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the week of Nov 18, including songs from her latest album including, "No Love" and "Ex For a Reason."

Personally, I was not a huge fan of Summer Walker before this album. But after listening to her latest release, I became more interested in her music. While I’m not super-fan status, I have enjoyed the pieces of work she had produced, and I appreciate her as an artist. The “Still Over It” album is a 10/10 recommend.

“Still Over It” can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and other music streaming services. Walker also has merch for her latest release, available on her website Summer Walker Music.
