APSCUF rallies outside Board of Governors meeting by Macala Leigey

Roughly 300 APSCUF (Association of Pennsylvania State College & University Facilities) members gathered outside of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) building in Harrisburg today to rally for what they consider a fair contract, as the Board of Governors held their meeting inside.

Faculty members and students from various state system schools began rallying at 8:30 a.m., with signs in hand and chants of "Frank Brogan has to go" and "what do we want? A contract. When do we want it? Now."

"I think the turn out is really good," said Indiana University of Pennsylvania professor Dr. Ronald See. He continued, "95 percent of the faculty are so much on the students' side. We really are concerned [with] keeping the education as good as we could have it, and keeping the quality up for the students as well."

APSCUF President Dr. Kenneth M. Mash was also at the rally.

"I think students should know that this is how much the faculty care about them. That in the middle of a semester with all the work that they've been doing got up at 4:30 in the morning to make the trip here," said Mash.

The rally continued into the afternoon hours, as the Board of Govenors continued to meet. APSCUF and PASSHE are scheduled to meet Oct. 14, just five days before the strike date, to continue contract negotiations.
