Devine and Efron chemistry can’t save ‘Mike and Dave’ by Gabriel Hypes

Inspired by a true story, “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” follows two young, fun and crazy men — Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) — as they try to find wedding dates for their sister’s wedding in Hawaii.

After starting a viral sensation, resulting in thousands of girls applying to go, they decide to pick Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza) and Alice (Anna Kendrick) because they seemed normal and innocent. They soon discover these girls are not as innocent as they thought.

“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” continues on a recent trend that other movies targeting young adults has followed and that is by simply casting Workaholics born comedic star Adam Devine. His presence in so many different recent comedies is not meant as a bad thing, though, in fact, he completely steals the show.

The best thing the film has going for itself is the relationship between Devine and Efron. If you were to tell me the two were brothers in real life after watching this film, I would absolutely believe you.

When the two stars shared the screen, the movie impressed. Watching their chemistry and the development of their characters marked the best part of the movie. Once the story developed, their wacky characters changed and the movie got old quickly.

“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” had its moments that kept the movie interesting, but the great moments with Devine and Efron weren’t enough to keep things moving.
