Edinboro University is currently taking applications to fill the anticipated student trustee vacancy on the school's Council of Trustees (COT). According to Sheila Taylor, executive assistant to the campus provost, the position is “a representative of the student body on the council of trustees that participates as a voting member on key issues.” The council is made up of 11 members, including graduating current trustee, Kyle Hurysz.

Hurysz has held the position for two and a half years, beginning his term in September 2018. Speaking highly of his time in the role, he said: “I would absolutely recommend this position to any student who feels a strong connection to the university and its student body. Of course, it is a tremendous responsibility, so the person in the position must be willing to put forth the requisite effort to do right by his or her fellow students.”

Hurysz listed effective communicative and analytical skills as two necessities. He also mentioned that a candidate must be willing to have the well-being of Edinboro students at the front of their mind. Any academic major can apply, however, the candidate must be in good academic standing with the university and taking at least 12 credits per semester.

Hurysz also detailed the need for someone who is, “trustworthy, outgoing, personally responsible, cooperative, curious, and empathetic.”

“It is extremely important for the student trustee to remember he or she is not just responsible for one or two groups of Edinboro University students, but rather every one of them,” he stated.

Students interested in applying for student trustee must fill out the application, which also requires a resume, three letters of recommendation and several essay responses. Information can be found in MyEdinboro. All required documents must be submitted to the Office of the Provost in Reeder Hall by Fri., Feb. 19. If you have questions, reach out to the office at (814) 732-2729.
