‘Boro women go 2-0, men drop matchup against Tiffin

The Edinboro University Fighting Scots swimming teams faced off against the Tiffin University Dragons on Friday. The men lost to Tiffin, 54-41. The women, meanwhile, moved to 2-0 on the year, fighting hard for a 80-22 victory.

Freshmen swimmers helped out both teams, including Ted Kinney and Luke Edmonds hitting PSAC qualifying times on the men’s side. Kinney logged one in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming it in 48.27 seconds; Edmonds, meanwhile, reached it in the 50 freestyle with a clocked time of 22.19.

Upperclassmen Jackson Bangert, Nick Bradford and Michael Kocher also kept form. Five men total qualified for PSACs. Bangert grabbed a time of 2:02.69 in the 200 butterfly. Bradford swam the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle, hitting 1:58.70 in the 200 IM and 5:02.63 in the 500 freestyle. Kocher raced in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.23.

On the women’s end, swimming hard alongside senior powerhouses Katelyn Kopacko and Yana Miletska were freshman Paige Smith and Makayla Scheu. Combined, they brought in an early win for the team in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.44. The next group to dominate the night was made up of Kara Miller, Kendall Peregrini, Sydney Cade and Melia Andrulonis, who won the 200 freestyle relay by clocking in at a time of 1:49.80.

Five swimmers on the women’s squad put up times that qualify them for the PSAC championships. Scheu placed in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.86, along with the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.56. Smith swam a 56.06 in the 100 freestyle. Kopacko qualified in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.40. Nicole Kadlecik raced in the 50 freestyle and her time of 25.48 qualified her.

Miletska’s performance of 1:00.42 in 100 backstroke also gave her a qualifying time.

The men are now 1-1 on the season, and the women are 2-0. The Fighting Scots will swim again on Friday against Bloomsburg University.
