That’s when Edinboro University first made its impression on the world wide web. Since then, the website has gone through six major changes, with the most recent one occurring in early 2014, according to internet archive tool Wayback Machine.

This academic year, the website will step into the future once more.

“The current site was launched more than five years ago, so it was time for a revamp,” said Angela Burrows, vice president of marketing and communications. “The new site will be designed primarily for prospective students, ensuring that they find the information they need and are provided with an accurate picture of the Edinboro community and what life is like on campus.”

The website has actually been under construction since late August. The firm hired by the university is iFactory, a digital design vendor based out of Boston. According to Burrows, iFactory has been involved in the launch of over 500 websites, and 80 percent of their clients are involved in higher education.

In an email sent out to Edinboro students on Oct. 9 announcing the website redesign, Burrows wrote, “National data consistently ranks higher education websites as the most important marketing communications tool (of a university).”

She told The Spectator that on the university end, the marketing and communications division, along with admissions and IT are collaborating with iFactory to produce the redesign. Constituents across campus are also involved in the process through focus group conversations.

“We have already solicited input from students, faculty and staff,” Burrows said. “Staff from marketing communications, admissions, academic affairs (including the provost, associate provost and deans), students affairs and advancement,” were involved in the focus groups, she detailed.

In addition, the announcement email contained a link to a survey that allowed the greater campus community to provide input on the redesign. The survey collection period ended on Oct. 16.

A town hall meeting where progress on the website redesign will be shared with the broader campus community will come later in the year.

The estimated cost of the redesign is $351,000. The newest version of Edinboro.edu is expected to be complete and ready for launch in the Fall of 2020.
