EU Hosts 'Rise of Hate Speech' Panel in Student Center by Tracy Geibel

“The Rise of Hate Speech on Campus and What to Do About It” was held on March 3 on Edinboro University’s campus in the Frank G. Pogue Student Center. The speakers discussed the rise of hate speech on campuses across the United States. The panel focused on who these groups are and what they are supporting, how hate speech and symbols become criminal action, and what it’s like to be addressed hatefully.

Dr. Ron Wilson was the panel moderator. Several professors from the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice were members of the panel, along with the Department of Communication Studies. The panelists included Dr. Andrew R. Smith, Dr. James Daniel Fisher, Dr. Rhonda Matters and Dr. George Richards.

The event ran from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
