The Edinboro women’s lacrosse team kept things tight against Kutztown for most of the game, but KU pulled ahead with three goals in 90 seconds at the tail end of the game. The Scots would fall 12-7.

The Golden Bears grabbed an early lead when they put up three goals within three minutes. Edinboro’s Sophie DePalma, meanwhile, took advantage of a man-up situation, with help from Olivia Thomas, to put the Scots on the board. The Bears scored again before Thomas responded with her first goal of the season.

The Bears would add another goal before Anna Leva and DePalma scored two goals for ‘Boro in under a minute to end the scoring in the half. Kutztown was up 5-4 at that point.

Abi Kunz opened scoring in the second half for The Fighting Scots. The teams then traded goals — DePalma scored for ‘Boro, but the Bears scored two more before Thomas could respond. The deficit stood at two.

Thomas said she was surprised that her second goal of the season would come in the same game as her first.

“It was really weird because it was my first goal this whole season,” Thomas said. “I got another one and it just kind of felt more natural...I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”

Kutztown scored three unanswered goals to end the game, 12-7.

“I thought that it was a pretty good match,” Thomas said. “At the end, we kind of let it go. I think that we could have definitely come out on top, but it’s all going to be a learning experience.”

DePalma finished the day with three goals, the second time she’s done so in Edinboro’s last three contests. Thomas finished with two and earned an assist, while Kunz and Leva both scored one goal. Candace McDole had 16 saves.

The team is now 1-10 overall and 1-6 in PSAC play.

The Fighting Scots travel to West Chester on Saturday and return home to face Lake Erie College, Tuesday at 4 p.m.
