Edinboro football may be looking for its first win of the 2015 season. One of its players earned an individual victory on Sunday.

Sophomore kicker Austin Reese was named the PSAC West Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Fighting Scots’ game against Shippensburg on Saturday at Sox Harrison Stadium. The new Scot connected on a pair of field goals in Edinboro’s 20-13 loss to the Red Raiders. One measured 27 yards with the other tallying 47 yards.

Also, Reese takes care of the punting duties for Edinboro and averaged 33 yards on six punts. One punt he placed within the 20-yard line.

“He is definitely a weapon for us,” head coach Scott Browning said of Reese. “I think he is confident and we feel very confident with him.”

The Orchard Park, New York native is in his first season on the field for the Fighting Scots after sitting out all of last season. He transferred to Edinboro from St. Francis (Pa.) prior to the 2014 season, but had to sit the year out. Reese became the first Boro kicker to make two field goals in a game since 2013 when T.J. Hardy made two against Seton Hill. Additionally, Reese’s 43-yard field goal was the first one of 40-or-more yards booted by a Fighting Scot since 2012 when Sean Seefeldt kicked a 42-yarder against Slippery Rock in 2012.

Browning and company aren’t afraid to use Reese in a game. “I would kick anything 50-yards or in with Austin [Reese],” Browning admitted. “He is a tremendous addition to our program.”

Reese is now 3-4 on the season with field goal attempts. His lone miss was a 46-yard field goal attempt against St. Joseph’s (Ind.) in the season-opening loss, which had the distance, but was wide. He’s also punted 12 times this season and averages 38.2 yards.
