Local businesses, community members and volunteers gathered at Lakeside Commons Shopping Center for the second annual Festival of Trees on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Besides a variety of locally decorated trees, the event also featured a vendor fair, crafts hosted by Goodell Gardens and Homestead, holiday photos with Santa Claus, live music from local artists and a mailbox for letters to the North Pole.

The Festival of Trees event was coordinated cooperatively by the Edinboro Community and Economic Development group, the Edinboro Public Arts Committee (PAC) and the Borough of Edinboro.

“Community businesses, social and service organizations, churches and families decorated trees that will remain on display through Christmas. Including the businesses within the mall, there are over 20 festive trees on display,” said Sarah Schoolcraft, head coordinator for this year’s event. Schoolcraft explained further that the fees collected from the vendor fair and other donations go directly back into the community, benefiting the Edinboro PAC and future community projects.

According to Goodell Gardens Homestead Education Coordinator Andrew Sipple, the organization hosted two craft booths for children attendees with do-it-yourself holiday ornaments and pinecone bird feeders.

“This was a wonderful opportunity to share the joy of community fellowship, make unique and original crafts, and educate people of all ages about the wonderful world of nature,” Sipple said.

Sipple also extended thanks to volunteers and employees who helped with the event, “We were very grateful for our volunteer, Renee Foradori, who helped with the craft booth. Kimberly Firestine, our events coordinator, also provided immensely helpful in setting up and running our station.”

According to the Borough of Edinboro, there are more festive events coming up throughout the month of December for locals and visitors to enjoy. Small Business Saturday, for example, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11. This small business event will include a receipt raffle and holiday specials featured in local businesses around town.

Extended business hours and additional deals will be offered by local businesses on “Thankful Thursdays,” which are scheduled for each Thursday throughout December.
