Walker named Edinboro University president by The Spectator

Dr. H. Fred Walker has been named the next president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, with his first day on the job being July 1. Walker was previously in the position of dean for the College Of Appplied Science and Technology at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

Board of Governors Chair Guido M. Pichini, the group that selected Walker unanimously for the position, told edinboro.edu regarding Walker, "With his vast array of skills, his knowledge and his experience, we are confident he will be an excellent leader for Edinboro University.”

Walker was a professor and department chair at the University of Southern Maine and also served for almost a decade in the U.S. Navy. He would tell edinboro.edu, "As a community we will work together while maintaining a work-life balance and common values. I am confident that our goodwill, collegiality, shared governance, strategic decision making and perseverance will bring EU to a new level of distinction! Susan [Walker's wife] and I look forward to calling Edinboro our home!”

He would talk to The Meadville Tribune regarding plans for Edinboro, stating "We've got to focus on (student) retention. Where are the EU graduates going and where are they coming from? How do they align with our recruitment coming in? It costs a lot less to retain students once you've got them rather than to go out and recruit new ones."

Previous Edinboro president, Dr. Julie E. Wollman, left the university to take on the same position at Widener University.
