The Edinboro women’s lacrosse team earned a winning streak for the first time this season with a 12-9 win over the Shippensburg Raiders Saturday while celebrating Senior Day.
Desiree Doucette, Stephanie Chido and Meredith Doron were honored. Doucette scored two goals last season and has scored 10 this season with two assists. Chido has scored 32 goals in her career so far and has earned four assists.
Doron, who plays defense, actually scored her first career goal on Saturday and earned her first point with an assist earlier this season.
Sophie DePalma opened up scoring for the Scots six minutes into the game. Anna Leva then converted a free position shot to increase their lead. The Raiders scored once before DePalma notched another two goals. Shippensburg then responded with two more goals before Sidney Dobbins scored a free position goal to end the half at 5-3 in favor of ‘Boro.
Shippensburg opened the second by scoring two goals within only 30 seconds to tie the game, 5-5. Leva, Olivia Thomas and Mary Uplinger would respond, scoring before the Raiders got back on the board. Leva scored her third goal of the game before Ship could answer, and then Kandyce Graham scored before the Raiders could score again.
Doucette and Doron scored within 31 seconds of each other to earn points on their Senior Day. Ship would convert a free position shot to end the game at 12-9 in ‘Boro’s favor.
DePalma and Leva both notched a hat trick, with Leva also grabbing three assists. Doron, Uplinger, Thomas, Dobbins, Graham and Doucette all scored a goal a piece.
Candace McDole had 13 saves and faced 14 free position shots, only allowing three free position goals.
The last time the Scots had a winning streak was last season when they won two in a row. Before that, the Scots held a four-game winning streak in the beginning of their season in 2016.
The Scots end their season at Lock Haven University on Saturday.
