With the holiday season approaching quickly, don’t forget to support small this year. Here are a few local businesses in and around the Edinboro area where you can find the perfect gift for your friends and family.

Struggling to pinpoint the perfect gift? Let your loved ones pick it themselves, by purchasing a gift card to support Edinboro’s small businesses. The Edinboro Community and Economic Development (ECED) nonprofit offers gift certificates that can be reimbursed in over 50 Edinboro-area businesses ranging from Compadres Mexican Grill to Earthshine Co. These gift certificates can be purchased online, or in-person at the Edinboro Borough Building at 124 Meadville Street.

A more sustainable shopping option would be local second-hand and/or antique shops around town. There are a few options when discussing antiques and lightly used items throughout Edinboro, but they all have a unique array of options.

YAAS Mercantile, for example, is home to tons of antiques, handmade items and more. In The Mill, “there is always something unique and antique at YAAS,” according to the business’s Facebook page. Yass even has multiple handmade seasonal options specifically for the holidays, such as wreaths and centerpieces.

The Green Eyed Lady, on Main Street in Edinboro, is another option for vintage and antique home décor and knick-knacks to gift someone special this holiday season. Next up, the Taylor Antique Mall has locations in Lake Side Commons of Edinboro and Corry, Pa which feature different antique options from varying booths with local items.

There is a hidden gem just down the road from Edinboro, about ten minutes from campus – Earth Wind and Wire Studio and Rock Shop. On Church Street in Cambridge Springs, this local shop has handmade jewelry, home décor, clothing items, pottery, and so much more. This shop also features products from local artists and vendors. From local memorabilia to CBD products, Earth Wind and Wire has it all.

Earthshine Co, on Meadville Street, has unique gifts and organic products galore. The locally owned and operated shop has clothing, jewelry, candles, home décor, crystals and more. Directly across the street from Earthshine sits a small shop, new to the Edinboro-area business world. The Cottage Rose opened back in 2020 and features a plethora of furniture, décor, and more. “What a sweet store! I love all of their stuff and the owner is so pleasant and helpful,” one customer wrote on Google.

If you have an outdoorsman or woman in your life, there are a few options for them locally as well. Located in The Mill, the recently opened 814 Outdoors Sports Shop is a full-service and sales bike shop. 814 Outdoors also carries kayaks, snow sleds, cross country skis and more. Fish Gods Co is another option. The company was created by two Edinboro University students who work to protect the environment and keep local watersheds clean. They have apparel, fishing accessories, and their one-of-a-kind Clean Eath Bag all for sale on their website.

Stocking stuffers or smaller gifts can be just as meaningful as the bigger ones. There are plenty of options for these around town, too. Sweats and treats can be found at Edinboro Chocolaterie and the Edinboro Market, featuring homemade goodies and fresh, locally sourced produce. Floral arrangements can be purchased at Le Jardin Florals & Furnishings, as well as A Floral Affair Flowers and Gifts in Lakeside Commons.

Edinboro University gear can be found in the campus bookstore and on the website. Books for students and leisurely reading can be purchased through the bookstore, and in the Book Trader, located on Erie Street in Edinboro.

No matter who you are shopping for or what you are searching for, there is a little something for everyone in small businesses and local shops around Edinboro. Support local this holiday season.
