Looking for a fresh way to save some money, yet have fun at the same time? Here are some cool deals on Edinboro’s campus.

Starbucks

Need caffeine? That’s not even a question; if you’re in college, the answer is yes. Yes, you do.

And Starbucks has just the deal for you.

At the two Starbucks locations on campus, which are in the Baron-Forness Library and in Rose Hall, you can bring your own cup or mug and you get a 10 cent discount on any size cup you bring!

While it may not seem like much, the professors really rob you early in the semester with book costs, so anything is helpful at this point.

Scot Cinema

Missed that big blockbuster movie over the summer, and it just isn’t the same unless you see it the theater? Well, the Scot Cinema has got you covered.

Almost every week, they have showings of popular movies that have recently come out, with showtimes on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m., Fridays at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.

The best part? It’s free.

Yep, that’s right. As long as you have your student ID, you get in for free. You’ll even get a free popcorn to top off your movie experience!

Not a student? No matter at all. A crisp $1 bill will have you sitting pretty for the movie, with an additional $1 getting you your popcorn. However, if you plan to come to multiple movies, you do have the option of passes, such as the $25 family fun pass, which has five people per pass, and the $10 single pass, which has two people per pass. Popcorn is free!

Their next movie presentation is “Ocean’s 8,” which will begin showings on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m.

C.O.R.E.

Looking for an escape from classes? C.O.R.E. may have just what you need.

C.O.R.E., or the Campus Outdoor Recreational Experience, has plenty for you to do.

You can rent equipment for the weekend, such as rollerblades, cross-country skis, camping equipment, snowshoes, cornhole boards, and a lot more that can’t possibly fit into this small story; again, for students with ID, its all free of charge. For community members, any of these items can be rented for low costs, ranging from $2 to $15.

As if that wasn’t enough, C.O.R.E. has plenty of events and trips throughout the year.

Here are some of their upcoming trips, which all can be signed up for in the climbing gym:

On Sept. 21-23, they will be hosting an overnight whitewater rafting trip to Adventures on the Gorge, located in Lansing, West Virginia. The cost is $30, which has two nights, rafting, and meals included. So, for those who long to be near raging waters of the rapids, registration is open now.

In addition, on Oct. 7, they will be going on a skydiving trip at Grove City; for just $75, you can leap forth from an airplane and soar through the sky with the majesty and grace of an eagle. Registration begins Sept. 24.

Fitness Classes

You might know about the free membership to the gym that comes with your student ID, but did you know that the gym also hosts free fitness classes? The classes, taught by student instructors, are an awesome way to meet new people and work out in a group setting.

Health Center

Last, but not least, is the health center. While you might know that they are the place to make an appointment when you’re suffering through, yet another bought of the never-ending college cold, did you know they also have a self-care room? You are allowed three “tokens” a day that will allow you to get bandages, feminine care products, and Tylenol or acetaminophen. The room is a great place to go when you can’t make a dash up to Walmart.

Bonus Deal:

Free Bus Pass

Don’t have a car on campus or want to save a bit of money on gas? Your student ID acts as a free bus pass. The bus will get you up to Walmart, Giant Eagle or Millcreek Mall and into Erie for no charge. It even runs on Saturday. Check out the bus schedule at ride-the-e.com for more information.
